About Sweets

“Bad vibes don’t go with my outfit.”

Shanice King, Multimedia Journalist

What started as a pursuit to become a DJ quickly turned into something bigger. A country city girl is the best way to understand the unique personality, Shani Sweets. Born to her parents as Shanice in Alabama, she was raised by her Bronx native mother. Shanice was able to experience life between the city and the south.

Most of her growing years she stomped the streets of New Haven, CT. Shanice was as independent as it came when being raised by a single mom. She explored the street culture and discovered much of her passion for dance, music and entertainment in New Haven.

Growing up during the early 2000s left her inspired by moguls like Free, Big Tigger, AJ, Ryan Seacrest, LaLa Anthony, Carson Daley, Sway Calloway, Terrance, Rocsi, and Angie Martinez.

The name “Shani Sweets” came while studying Mass Communications at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Amongst her peers, Shanice recognized her passion for media for the first time on Shaw University’s campus radio station WSHA 88.9 FM.

Diving headfirst into radio soon led her to her radio family, Most Wanted Radio and 72.9 The Voice in 2017. The young and resilient, Shanice, has since furthered her education at Full Sail University and was recently proclaimed salutatorian of c/o 2020 in Multimedia journalism.

You can now listen to the personality, Shani Sweets on Power 95.5 FM, a radio station in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She has the weekend shows covered with the Sweet Spot. Catch her 10 AM – 3 PM on Saturday’s and 2 PM – 6 PM on Sunday’s.
